The 20/20 Party cont'd
What did you think about Martha Stewart's interview with Barbara Walters on 20/20? Did it make you feel more sympathetic towards her and did she help her case?

Hi Martha, A very difficult interview to do, but you were with the very best. Martha, you go girl, and keep your head high. Those who have nothing to hide, hide nothing. Yuo are in my prayers. Sincerely, Alma
Alma

I thought Barbara W. was pretty cold to Martha. She is a leach just like all of the other people who want a "piece" of the crucifiction of "Martha". I don't know anything about Wall Street etc, so I am not sure if what she did was wrong or right. I am sure that she is being targetted by EVERYONE, overly so, due to the fact that she is a powerful woman, and people just can't handle that. People get jealous of a person who is motivated, and focused on any task at hand, and especially a person with a lot of money. Who would be interested in say Madonna if she weren't rich? I just don't see the point in all of this, I don't think she is a liar, but if something did become of this, we have a pretty messed up judicial system to pick on 62 year old women who make a lot people feel good about themselves.

Maureen

I believe in Martha Stewart. I believe she is a strong, intelligent woman who creates and markets great, reliable products for a reasonable price. I trust in her innocence as much as I trust in her products.

Listening to her during the interview convinced me even more that she is not a criminal. She was asked some very direct questions and answered them without being evasive or skirting the issue. We need more women in the world like Martha Stewart!

I was touched and inspired by both her strength and sadness. I feel she is being targeted by those who are jealous of her.
I do feel she will overcome anything that this whole nightmare will bring her way.
It is this strength that has inspired all of the people she's helped by sharing her love and knowledge of daily life and how to make it just a little easier. That's a Good Thing!

Barbara Walters can be brutal. Martha Stewart's answers reflect her complete transparency. She came across as sincere and, like most of us, completely baffled about why the government would try to destroy her. Her story is the American Dream come true, and she is an inspiration to women of all ages.

Right now, she deserves support to keep her company's immediate employees and their families with jobs. Along with them are the thousands of related industries involved with her company. It doesn't make sense to me that Martha Stewart would jeopardize everything she and her associates have built for a few thousand dollars. Does it to anybody?

It is obvious to me that Martha Stewart is in great emotional pain at the thought of what could happen to those who depend upon her and those upon who she depends when the trial begins. There is deep sadness in her eyes, but a determined spirit and optimism that she will be exonerated of all charges. That's my prayer.

She needs to know that ordinary people like me truly enjoy her magazine and TV program. My home is filled with her products. My deck is covered with her "gardenware" items.

Please thank Ms Stewart for being brave enough to be interviewed by Barbara Walters.

Prior to the interview, I was indifferent toward Ms. Stewart but I now have a better perspective about what motivates her actions. She certainly does not fit the stereotypical money flaunting CEO, although it is clear she likes the competition and she likes to win -nothing wrong with either of those objectives.

I would say there were a few sensitive comments, one having to do with the equivalent mens action and the name we have for women. The reality is that we do call women bitches and we do call men bastards. Bad behavior is not acceptable from either sex and it has a name despite gender. Another comment that could be misinterpreted was the one about being found not guilty. I always think it is better to state the same thing by proclaiming one's innocence and the hope that the system eventually reaches the correct conclusion without announcing that the system will reach that conclusion. They were minor gaffes, if that, but it never hurts to anticipate and soften the blasts from the vocal critics.

I also thought Ms. Stewart came across as too tough at times. I would never suggest she be anything less than sincere yet there is something to be said about a strong and contrite public persona. I know it is tough to apologize (not that one is warranted), especially when one feels they have been wronged, but keep in mind innocent people still do go to jail based on the consensus of the mob rule. Perhaps she will consider a strong and gracious public comment when she is finally vindicated.

I thought martha did real good. i'm not a Martha Stewart fan but after seeing this i think it is a witch hunt to tear her down for everything she worked hard for. I think i'll start buying her products now. And about her being a bitch, I think she expects the same type of hard work around her as she puts out herself, I know a lot of people like that. In the real world that is how it is with owners that work dirrectly with you. thank you, chris mullen

It was so nice to finally see the human side of Martha Stewart. I hope that the government drops the charges before they face the embarrasment of losing in court. I wish her the best of luck with all of her battles.

I never liked Martha until she became the object of a witch hunt. I appreciate her honesty, and even though she didn't like the TV movie, I felt that after seeing it, I could connect with her. From that day on, I have been a loyal supporter of hers. I now enjoy reading her magazine and watching her show. I admire her and I hope that she is aquitted of the ridiculous charges that have been made against her. The government needs to concentrate on the bozos at Eron and Worldcom and the likes. These people stole the lives of way too many hardworking people, and yet nothing has been happening to them. Tell Martha not to worry, WE LOVE HER MORE NOW!!! Thank her for talking to Barbra! Viva la Martha!!

Sincerely,
Katy Marshall

\ Martha's mother made a very GOOD point. That man is only trying to make himself look bigger and better bye hurting and bringing Martha down.

I really feel they are trying to make Martha a prime example of what happens to inside traders. AND hurt her at the same time.

I thought it was mean for Barbra to ask Martha: "Martha why does so many people hate you?"

That may be true but, does Barbra know that there is over 500,000 gay men that love and adore her work. And love Martha not hate her, some aspire to be her. This sounds funny , but true!

My heart felt the pain that Martha was describing.
I believe that she is a very strong women and will make it through this terrible time.
I also want her to know that no one is perfect and let he who is innocent cast the first stone. I'm referring to the questions about martha's personality and if she's been mean, etc.
I loved her honesty on that question. Spoken like the wonderful Ms. Martha Stewart that she has been to us, still is, and always will be.
best wishes always martha,
your fan always, sheila june cross

I have never been a Martha fan-I never read her books or magazines and always turned the channel when I heard her themesong. She just seemed so "snooty" and "above us" UNTIL tonight. I watched the interview and I have totally changed my mind about Ms Stewart.

She is alot like my, in wanting to the do the best at whatever she does and expecting all others around her to want the same thing and be as diligent and hard working. What she said hit the nail on the head "when a man does it, it is admirable and when a woman does it, she's a *beach*"

I have the same problem where I work, I am considered a *B* because I work so hard, am focused and expect and get agitated when others around me do not.

I do not know if she is guilty or innocent, I now tend to believe her, however, I really think she is being unfairly persecuted. Look at all the men that got off ripping off companies and clients....she has done nothing close to the ENRON fiasco.

I never thought I would ever say this but:

SAVE MARTHA!

Janis

I absolutely believed Martha. She truly wouldn't have any reason to be untruthful...I think the charges against her are far-fetched, I know there are hundreds to thousands of people who've done what she did every day = otherwise how do we explain stockbrokers, investors and financial advisors???? We certainly don 't hear a "tip" then ignore it to make sure we lose all our money. I don't even think Martha did anything wrong-it sounds like a witch-hunt to me. Keep up your strength Martha....you're stronger than them!!!!!!!!!!!! They're just jealous of "A GOOD THING". If any "unknown" person reacted as you did, it wouldn't have even been questioned but since it is you, someone has taken advantage of our justice system to make a fool of you and hurt you. I think that individual should be on trial--not you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,

Georgine Keeling

It was great to see Martha. She looked relaxed but emotionally reserved. I felt so sad for her.. all that she has had to go through in the past year is outrageous.

I am so ashamed of our Federal Government for persecuting/prosecuting Martha. They have unfairly crucified her in the media. It is a modern day Salem Witch hunt. I think that they should be sued for defaming her and her company.

I thought Barbara felt intimidated by Martha~the questions she asked Martha answered without even needing words because she answered with her body lanquage~true MS fan's know them.I do think that non~MS fans got to see her real side.Of course if this is the first side they watched her and realized what a true SELF MADE BILLIONARE she has become, they may have begun to see the truth in all of this nonsense.I loved Martha's answer when BW asked her about her honesty...LIKE~~DON'T ya get it Barb she makes business decisions according to how intelligent people do....
hell~~~I guess we should be relieved to know we can't be BEHEADED~~like Marie Antoinette.WomensvieOntheNet

I felt that it was good to hear from her. I have read the two books about Martha, and I used to subscribe to her magazine...I really respect Martha. Everyone has a peak in finances in their lives, and truthfully, she is still a wealthy woman, and a powerful one.I truly believe if she was a man she wouldn't have had this much media or possibly 30 years in prison. Is prison the right answer?? I do not think so.

Martha seems to be a very bright, successful person who "has it all". Some people get great joy out of seeing people like Martha ruined. Why is that? Barbara's interview gave Martha a chance to show her feelings. I think it was great to see her mom, Martha, speak out for her daughter, Martha. I only wish Martha's daughter had participated with a comment about her mom.
