Martha Should be saved Because..

The Winners

Peter thinks Martha is a great boss:

I think that Martha should be saved because she's the best boss I've ever had. I worked for Martha until recently, and I have to say that my five years at MSLO were the best years in my profession. She's tough, but she's a complete inspiration.

Peter Mars

I think that Martha should be saved because...even if I ever do a project, cook a recipe or organize anything in my house--there is something reassuring in the fact that Martha gathers all that information and keeps our homemaking traditions alive. She never underestimates the intelligence of her viewers or her buyers. What she "sells" has intrinsic merit and value. She has varied interests--maybe her lifestyle is a bit over- the-top but I'd rather watch Martha than Anna Nicole Smith!...I truly admire Martha for taking the mundane of life such as how to iron a shirt, how to hem men's slacks and how to make a headband and giving those who do them a platform of dignity and accomplishment. I'm still amazed of the grown up field trips that we've taken with Martha--the visit to Pantone sticks in my memory as something I deal with often but never knew the origins of. Martha is Martha--even her out take show didn't show a plaster saint--she got a raw deal because of jealousy. We need to save Martha because she has saved so much for us, in our traditions, and history. She as saved us by recognizing our need for and showing her respect for our curiosity. She saved retail sales from the tawdry. We need to save Martha because she is a compendium of ideas, interests, and traditions that many of us overlook.

And a few other entries:

Things that make you go hmm...

I think that Martha should be saved because... (1) she really did no wrong if her broker told her to sell; (2) MSLO is a very good company with a bright future even after all of this silly govenmental/media frenzy; (3) the upcoming "Martha Movie" will need the true life happy ending where Martha Stewart and Edd Townsend become happily married and fly off into the sunset in that Cessna "SaveMartha.com" airplane.

Thanks for the opportunity to let met voice my thoughts.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian Burleson

Lisa appreciates quality:

I think that Martha should be saved because...She has done nothing wrong that no other human being in her position wouldnt have done. And to put her picture on the news next to Osuma bin Laden..that is just plain PITIFUL! He killed thousands...Supposedly Martha only saved thousands...IF SHE DID IT! I watch her show faithfully and have gotten many great recipes, idea and tips. SHE IS TRULY the queen of homemaking! I will PROUDLY wear her tshirt along with the tshirts and jackets I am purchasing for my kids! LOL..my family jokes about my obessession with Martha Stewart..but I simply laugh and say..I KNOW QUALITY! Thank YOU

Lisa

Bette has a real-world perspecive on this mess:

I think that Martha should be saved because...after working and being involved in the great world of commodity trading, I know first hand the real meaning of insider trading, It goes on on the floor of every exchange in the world, also in every brokerage house. Get real, do they really think they can prove a case of insider trading, if so, tell them to go after ken lay and the likes who really stole money from working people. Lay off of Martha. I believe most of the problem is that she is auccessful woman. They cannot topple Oprah so they go after Martha because she is public

Bette Shadel

Lori is a true, Loyal Fan:

I think that Martha should be saved because...I am Marthas biggest fan. I subscribe to her magazine which I so look forward to. Whenever I watch TV, I look for her programs on Food Network or regular TV. Sorry if she is in trouble, but I LOVE MARTHA whatever the outcome. She is a very smart business woman and I give her a lot of credit!

Lori Hardee

This one from Judith is a bit sarcastic but funny nonetheless. Nice try, but no VooDoo for you:

I think that Martha should be saved because... I can't function as a hostess without her! I don't know how to make vases out of turnips and napkin rings out of artichokes. My mother -in-law will find out I really am the hick she told all of her relatives I was when I married her only son. How will her son get the raises he wants if I can't impress his boss and Mrs. Boss. Oh dear I must go lie down on my fainting couch, the one I wove the fabric for from my lovely sheep, they are now grazing on my hand cut lawn. Did I say I made the couch from the lumber I cut from my lovely trees? I just love making things with Martha's help.

Judith P. Barrett

We think Paul has been sipping too much of that GOP Kool Aid:

I think that Martha should be saved because......she is employing countless hundreds of liberal arts graduates who would otherwise be applying for NEAgrants, jockeying for jobs on Oprah's staff, standing in line collecting unemployment checks, or exploring career opportunities with the CIA.

So, when you look at it that way, she's actuallyhelping to improve our economic posture.

Take that, Alan Greenspan! "Irrational exuberance" my
ass. Save Martha!

Paul Payton

Estelle thinks Martha keeps our traditions alive:

Terry thinks its jealousy. We agree:

I think that Martha should be saved because...old men hate successful women....

terry l. kups

Looks like Mike wants a date:

I think that Martha should be saved because... Is she a goddess! I have been following her shows and books ever since I can remember. The only reason some people dislike her is because she can do anything.
I know she had nothing to do with this incident as always this stockbroker was robbing her blind. Let us unite and save Martha. All humanity needs her.

Mike

Brenda wants justice:

I think that Martha should be saved because...if she is charged everyone that sold that day should be .and everyones name should be drug thu the mud just like hers!!!!

brenda

Vicoria thinks its all about misogyny. We agree:

I think that Martha should be saved because ... she was doing what the big boys have been doing for years. Why wait till a woman gets real successful before the way you do business changes. I know what the rules are, but none, or very few ... which I doubt, have played by the official rules. If Martha goes down ... a whole bunch of dudes need to follow. Attacking Martha is just a smoke screen to save the 'good ole boys' ... please don't sacrifice Martha!

Victoria

Deniese says Blondes unite!

I think that Martha should be saved because...She is Blond!

Deniese Rako

Theresa says its the media, stupid!

I think that Martha should be saved because...she has wrongly been incriminated by the media. She paid her stockbrockers and in my opinion if you pay for a service that is what you exspect, someone to help you manage your stocks and your money. She hasn't done any more than any rich person in her position and power status. Don't they realize this publicity is just a plus for Martha and will come out smelling like a fresh cooked souffe'. Martha I applaud you and naturally will support you to the end!!!

Theresa Morris

Scott wants Martha to take control of the situation

I think that Martha should be saved because she is smart enough to know that this entire fiasco will end when she confesses, apologies and pays the fine. Martha has made a significant positive impact to the culture of our country. Despite the fun that media, comedians and even she has had making fun of her, despite the current harsh coverage and ridicule, there is and will continue to be a signficant amount of public goodwill toward her. She need not squander that goodwill by blaming politics or blaming others. She needs to put this behind her- QUICKLY!

Scott Miller

Corey thinks it's a vast anti-Martha conspiracy:

I think that Martha should be saved because...she is being unfairly targeted by GOP politicians. As one congressional committee member has publicly stated, "Martha Stewart will not receive special treatment just because she is rich and famous." Obviously, her fame and wealth are a factor. Congress lost track of their initial investigation.

Corey

Sandra takes it out on Jay Leno

I think that Martha should be saved because...she is god...she is not a god, she is THE GOD! She is a wonderful role model for all women everywhere. She is the Susan B Anthony of our time. Just as Rosa Parks boycotted the bus, we, her devoted fans should boycot Jay leno for his harsh and unfunny words.

Sandra Felz

Ruthanne thinks the media is jealous and unfair:

I think that Martha should be saved because... I don't understand why it's such a crime to be rich, beautiful and talented. It seems the press is quick to assume guilt. Perhaps it's because she's the queen of homemaking. She does everything around the home so well. So what!! We all want to be like her.

Ruthanne Newman

Martha for President!

I think that Martha should be saved because...she has not done anything that anyone else in her position has not done, including our current President.

Wayne Lewis

Nice try again Paul, but no cigar:

I think that Martha should be saved because......in these times of moral decay, impending war, and economic uncertainty, we are all sorely in need of a chippy blonde housewife from Westport to keep our minds occupied by complementing a really good gazpacho soup, leeks vinaigrette with shrimp, marinated zucchini, and orange mousse with a nicely-chilled Cotes du Rhone Rouge '59.

Who else can show us how to properly caulk our chicken coups for the harshness of the winter months?

Katie Brown? Rebecca Kolls? I don't think so!

Who else would employ all those deserving Barnard grads
in fine arts? Martha is a juggernaut who should never
be trifled with.

Case closed.

Paul Payton

Rosemary sees a witchunt:

I think that Martha should be saved because...relative to the real culprits (eg. CEO of World Com etc) of Wall Street Marhta has done nothing except what all stock holders are suppose to do, ie. sale before the stock plummets. Inaddition, she is a model of a successful American women and that may be what is why she is a focal point of a witch hunt and serving also as a red herring.

Rosemary Wood

Pat thinks Martha's success brings jealousy

I think that Martha should be saved because she has worked hard to establish her business. Because she works hard and knows what she needs to do to get things rolling a lot of people are jealous of her.

Pat A. Davis

Bridget likes to learn from Martha:

I think that Martha should be saved because...I LOVE TO WATCH HER MAKE DIFFERENT THINGS. I REALLY LIKE TO MEET MARTHA. SHE IS MY FAVORITE COOK NEXT TO EMERIL. I LIKE WHEN SHE HAS ONE OF THE SESAME STREET CHARACTERS ON THERE. MY SON LIKES IT WHEN SHE HAS THEM ON THERE. I CAN LEARN ALOT FROM WATCHING MARTHA. SO PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER OFF THE AIR. I WILL BE LOST WITHOUT HER.SOMEDAY I WILL TEACH MY SON HOW TO COOK. AND SOMEDAY HE WILL ASK ME HOW I LEARNED THEN I WILL TELL HIM I LEARNED FROM WATCHING MARTHA. SINCERELY MARTHA STEWART'S FAN ;

BRIDGET PEDONE

Linda thinks Martha is a role model:

I think that Martha should be saved because...
Martha is a good role model for young womwn who are making choices for their life. She has and encourages a hard working family oriented work ethic. By hard work and believing you can do anything you set out to do.Women can and do get ahead and make an impact on the world of business even if men can't accept that women are just as capable as and in most cases more capable and honest in business practices. How many companies headed by womwn CEO's went broke and Ceo's on trial or in jail?
Answer NONE. Wake and smell the coffee guys!

Linda Ohnmacht

Linda says Martha's a real woman:

I think that Martha should be saved because...she is the only REAL WOMAN that other women and teenage girls have to look up to for knowledge, encouragement and leadership. She takes the hum drum out of a housewife's life with her wonderful ideas. Martha is what all women should aspire to be and that is generous, kind, creative, imaginative and loving!

Linda H. White

Animal lovers unite!

I think that Martha should be saved because..shes an animal lover Be kind to animals.

Namejulia

Martha has the cool factor:

I think that Martha should be saved because...I think she is pretty cool, I love all her shows, I hope everything works out for her in the end, I believe everything happens for a reason.

Because of her shows it gives us ideas on how to improve our life styles, it may not all be like the way martha lives, but life always seem a little more simple if you are organized, as martha always indicated in her tv shows, I have learned a few tricks and better, more easier ways go through my day.

shelley best

Sherry says its Marthas success:

I think that Martha should be saved because...she is being targeted because she is an extremely successful female. She has dared to mix her success in the "feminine" arena of "the home" with being a hard nosed businesswoman, who not only mingles with other ultra wealthy people, but is intimate with their business practices, the stock market, etc. People (especially men, I think) have a hard time with these supposedly incompatible aspects of Martha--as if since she's a cooking expert, she should stay in the kitchen/tend to her knitting...If she were a man, nobody would be particularly shocked at her use of her personal connections.
Also, as an example of the media's targeting of Martha Stewart, her "good friend", Conan O'Brien, who just a few months ago appeared on her show, and she on his, is now constantly slamming her on his show--what loyalty!

Sherry Davenport

Sherri says Martha's a good thing!

I think that Martha should be saved because...she is a GOOD THING and has on many occasions saved my butt by coming up with time saving ideas for quick party tips and delicious recipes for any entertaining event......and she has so many good ideas for saving us all money with her products at K-mart for our houses and yards......if you had ever sliped into her 200 thread count sheets after a hard day at the office or an eventful day with the kids and pulled one of her super soft comforters over you .........then maybe you could understand why Martha should be saved from all the unjust press and false accuations of wrong doing .........no man would ever have been looked at under a microscope like Martha....mainly because there are so few prominent Women like her......Martha for President........if she can withstand all this abuse and come out on top ......I will put her right up there with Hilary Clinton for another of my choices for a qualified person to run this wonderful country of ours.

Sherri Gayle Coghill

Martha does good things for good people:

I think that Martha should be saved because...she does so much good for people who watch her she gives out recipes , information about so many places that we as watches would never know she takes us places that we could never go as a retired person i watch her all time i have got alot of information from her programs i sure hope this will soon be settled so we can go own with our lives it is very bad for all of us

Ceballard

Martha's being persecuted by men:

I think that Martha should be saved because...she is hardly a hardened criminal. Remember where she came from. She was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth. But it seems mostly the men that can't wait to point the finger first. Perhaps they are feeling guilty for some of the blatant indiscretions, and fraud many male CEO's have been caught at over the years. Martha is being advised by her attorneys. So all though, we would love to hear her side of the story, she can't at this time. Her supposed insider training allegations are nothing compared to the Enron, Worldcom, etc. debacles. Those men should definitely be locked up, but they won't. So neither should Martha. I love Martha, and I admire her guts, brains, and courage.
